Joining Forces Against Drug Abuse: United Nations Convention Hosted by Foundation for a Drug-Free World

On June 2nd, 2018, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, Americas Chapter, held a convention at the United Nations in honor of the UNODC International Day Against Drug Abuse. Sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Lesotho, the convention gathered support from the State of Lualaba of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Permanent Mission of Haiti to the United Nations to discuss the role of drug prevention in cultural sustainability.

The United Nations Convention brought together notable keynote speakers such as Ambassador Noella Nsamwa, President of the National Council of Drugs of the Dominican Republic, and the Cultural Ambassador of the State of Lualaba of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Other speakers included officials from New York City, El Salvador, and Guatemala, as well as the Designer of All Flo Couture.

The convention also provided an opportunity for the Foundation for a Drug-Free World to meet with UNGASS, a special UN panel responsible for assessing and debating global issues such as health and gender, as well as the world's drug control priorities.

As drug abuse remains a significant challenge in societies worldwide, events like this convention highlight the importance of prevention strategies and community support. The Foundation for a Drug-Free World's commitment to educating individuals and communities about the dangers of drug use is a vital step towards creating a drug-free world.
